Dr. Gilles Hillel Wust-Bloch is a senior lecturer at the School of Geosciences at Tel Aviv University. His vision is to develop and foster an integrated approach to earthquake preparedness, whereby state-of-the-art realtime earthquake monitoring techniques and Earthquake Early Warning Systems (EEWS) are fully integrated with earthquake interactive education and open citizen science.

While completing a Ph.D. in rock mechanics at the ETH-Zurich (1990), he worked on volcanic seismology and went on developing array-based nanoseismic monitoring techniques for earthquake and forensic seismology. Since he joined TAU in 1999, Hillel has led a series of unique Israeli-Jordanian-Palestinian cooperative research projects in seismology and earthquake science in the Dead Sea region.

He is the founder and present director of DeadSeaNet: A unique transborder seismic monitoring network that consists of a cluster of mini-arrays. Hillel uses DeadSeaNet to develop and validate a series of backazimuth-based rapid location algorithms and advanced array-based EEWS.
